Painkiller: America’s Fentanyl Crisis

Copywriter/Strategist

The opioid crisis hit a milestone in 2020: fentanyl killed more people in a single year than any other drug in modern history. The Emmy Award-winning Vice News team teamed up with Spotify to release Painkiller: America’s Fentanyl Crisis, a podcast that tracks the third wave of the Opioid Crisis. In order to drive listenership to the podcast in the middle of a pandemic, during a time where ever-increasing news fatigue was turning into total news burnout, we created a social campaign that positioned Painkiller as a spontaneous trip through the underground rabbit-hole of America’s fentanyl crisis as it’s happening.

Audiograms and static assets leaned into familiar tropes of flawed systems and marginalized communities (in addition to a couple unlikely characters) as key factors that play into the Fentanyl crisis we have today.
